SCS service connector

Question:

Jumpering the service connector prevents ignition advance while setting the timing. Thing is though, the ECU doesn’t start adding advance till 950 rpm. As long as your base idle is below 900-950 rpm, no need to jumper the connector. — Charles Tague  93 Honda Civic DX HB #17 CSP http://home.cinci.rr.com/mistab0ne/

Anybody know what’s in the Honda SCS service connector – a resistor, diode? I know that even with the OBDII systems people have been using just a paper clip on the harness connector, where it still exists, but is that safe?… no chance of buggering the ECM? I know that the manual says specifically to not use a jumper for the SRS MES wiring but to use the SCS connector so there has to be something in there other than just wires. While on the subject, I checked the ignition timing on my ‘92 Integra last week, mainly because I just replaced the distributor body.  I see no difference in the timing whether the service connector is jumpered or not. Oh and I did the check before changing the distributor body because I wanted to be sure what to expect after the change.  IOW the jumper on the service connector apparently makes no difference.
