1997 Honda Civic LX – Inspect Valve Clearance
Question:
> I have a 1997 Honda Civic LX. The maintenance schedule says that at 30,000 > miles only, one should inspect the valve clearance. Is this necessary? Why > only at 30,000 miles? I thought with replacing the timing belt regularly > this wouldn’t be necessary.
Obviously you should adjust the valves if they are out of spec. Changing the timing belt has nothing to do with valve clearance.( it’s like saying how come my tires wear out- I rotate them at specified intervals) It would be normal to adjust the valves at that time since the valve cover is off and you are lining up the timing marks.
Response:
Valve clearance adjustment is needed because of valve train wear. It’s is recommended for every 30k. Timing belt has nothing to do with this adjustment. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I have a 1997 Honda Civic LX.
